Cristiano Ronaldo asked to leave Manchester United after the club failed to qualify for the Champions League. The Manchester Evening News understands that the club's stance remains that the Portuguese forward is not for sale and they expect him to be part of Erik ten Hag's plans this summer.
However things do not always work out the way that you would like, and if Ronaldo wants to leave there is not much that United would be able to do to stop him.
This would leave Anthony Martial as the club's only central striker and that is problematic in a long season. So United will need to sign another forward, the issue is that since he left it so late in the window to decide he wanted to leave, the options are limited.
And given that Ten Hag needs players in other positions, investing in a striker might be seen as a waste if Ronaldo doesn't decide to leave.
