MUMBAI : Former test player Roger Binny was elected president of the powerful Indian cricket board on Tuesday, replacing former captain Sourav Ganguly in the role.Jay Shah, son of Home Minister Amit Shah, was re-elected as secretary of the world's richest cricket board.

He also heads the Asian Cricket Council.At its annual general meeting in Mumbai, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) also approved a women's Indian Premier League, which is likely to begin in March next year, after the men's event proved a massive hit.Binny, a bowling all-rounder in his playing days, was part of the India team which won the 1983 World Cup in England, a victory that sparked India's obsession with the game.

The BCCI can't take a call on its own on whether the Indian team will travel to Pakistan for the 2023 Asia Cup or not as it relies on the government to make such decisions, new Board president Rogery Binny said on Thursday. Speaking at an event organised by Karnataka State Cricket Association in Bengaluru, Binny said the BCCI has not approached the government yet on travelling to Pakistan next year but eventually the central government will only decide on the matter.

Azharuddin called Binny a nice man and reminisced about his playing days with Binny, saying he has fond memories of playing with him. He also informed the board's decision regarding India's contender for the top ICC post and noted that no discussion took place on it, with the BCCI looking to decide on it later. "He (Roger Binny) is a nice man. I have played a lot of cricket with him and we have fond memories. No discussions took place on the ICC chairman post today, the board will decide later," said the former Indian captain.
