Formula 1 and Audi confirmed the German automaker's involvement in the sport in 2026 as a power unit supplier.The new engine regulations, set to come into effect at the start of the 2026 season, will introduce more sustainable technologies that will vastly reduce the carbon footprint, all of which played into Audi's desire for the future."I am delighted to welcome Audi to F1, an iconic automotive brand, pioneer, and technological innovator," said F1 President and CEO Stefano Domenicali, who worked for Volkswagen for a stint starting in 2014. "This is a major moment for our sport that highlights the huge strength we have as a global platform that continues to grow."F1 has set itself a target of being carbon-neutral by 2030.The 2026 power unit will still be built around the 1.6-litre V6 turbocharged petrol engine, but electrical power will be increased, and 100% sustainable fuels will be used.

When asked who the chassis partner would be, Chairman of the Board of Management of Audi AG, Markus Duesmann, said: "We haven't decided yet."
