CoA initiates poll process at Hockey India, appoints returning officer

Bihar government, Ajay Nayak has been appointed as the returning officer for the Hockey India elections, to be conducted by October 9.

The appointment was made during a meeting held between the International Hockey Federation (FIH) and the Committee of Administrators (CoA) running the sport in the country currently.

The meeting was attended by FIH acting president Seif Ahmed, CEO Thierry Weil and members of the CoA, Justice Anil R Dave, SY Quraishi and Zafar Iqbal.

AK Majumdar has been appointed as the assistant returning officer. "They will be assuming their positions with immediate effect," the national federation said in a statement.

World Cup 2023. The FIH and Hockey India delegations, during their visit to the steel city, inspected the infrastructure at the stadium and other aspects like connectivity, logistics, accommodation, city beautification and security arrangements with senior state government officers. They appreciated the support extended by Odisha towards development of hockey after sports secretary R Vineel Krishna made a presentation on the preparations.
The team, comprising members of the International Hockey Federation or the FIH and Hockey India, expressed satisfaction over the ongoing work at the Birsa Munda International Hockey Stadium. They also inaugurated a training centre there and took stock of activities going on at Rourkela Airport, which will be used as a transit hub for the players, staff and others. FIH acting president Seif Ahmed, congratulated Odisha and Hockey India for the work that they had done.
The FIH also stated that the draw of the Men's Hockey World Cup, to be hosted jointly by Bhubaneswar and Rourkela from January 13 to 29 next year, will take place as per schedule on September 8. "The latest correspondence received from the CoA today comply with the talks held between the CoA and the FIH in India on 17 August," FIH Senior Manager Communications, Nicolas Maingot told PTI.
The 20 nomination papers pertain to two candidates each for the posts of president, vice president and treasurer, and 14 for the executive committee members. "After conducting scrutiny of nomination forms for the posts of president, vice president, treasurer and executive committee members, all 20 nomination forms have been found correct," RO Umesh Sinha said. Elections are to be held for the posts of one president, one vice president, one treasurer and 14 executive committee members.
Egypt's Seif Ahmed is currently the acting president of FIH following Narinder Batra's resignation from the top post last month. Batra, who became FIH president in 2016, resigned last month and also quit as Indian Olympic Association (IOA) chief.
