Former Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder made his pitch to Aberdeen as he bids to become the next manager at Pittodrie. Record Sport understands the vastly experienced Yorkshireman, who has been out of work since being axed by Championship club Middlesbrough in October, held talks with new Dons chief executive Alan Burrows in the Granite.

City. Wilder, 55, took Sheffield United into the English Premier League in 2019 and to ninth in their first season in the top flight.

But he was axed in March 2021 with the Blades bottom of the league and is looking to rebuild his career after the Boro job didn’t work out.

Wilder attended last weekend’s Old Firm Viaplay Cup final to get a first-hand feel of Scottish football and believes he is the man to revive the Dons’ fortunes.
