Canadian 7s men face relegation with 2 rugby events left after another losing weekend

New Zealand defeated Argentina 19-17 Sunday to win the HSBC Singapore Sevens and become the first men's team to qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The news was not so good for the Canadian men, who finished 14th and face relegation with two events remaining in Toulouse, France, and London.

The top four teams in the standings at the end of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series automatically qualify for the Olympics.

After Singapore, the All Blacks have a 24-point lead atop the table and cannot drop out of the top four. "To qualify for Paris means everything to us," New Zealand coach Clark Laidlaw said from Kalang. "The first thing this year is to qualify for the Olympics.
