Two Brits claim they have discovered the "truth" about a war-torn Middle Eastern country after taking a holiday there. TikTok user Simon Wilson (@simonwilso8) and his friend drew attention online when they travelled to Syria, which is currently locked in a civil war.

Despite the UK government's Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) issuing warnings against all travel to Syria due to "the ongoing conflict and unpredictable security conditions," the pair proceeded with their unusual trip.

The FCDO website states: "FCDO advises against all travel to Syria due to the ongoing conflict and unpredictable security conditions," and advises British nationals in Syria to "Ieave the country by any practical means." From their vantage point atop a building, the pair reflected on their visit. Simon asked: "Is that what you expected? Because it's not what I expected." His friend went on to express an unexpected sentiment: "This is not how we expected it to be." And providing a brief review of their stay, Simon interjected: "No not at all – the hotels are alright and I'd say the food is awesome." His companion added: "I mean maybe India could compare, but this food is amazing and the people are super bloody friendly." Wrapping up their conversation, Simon queried, "Would you come again?" prompting his friend's enthusiastic response: "Abso-bloody-lutely." However, their account was met with scepticism online, as one TikTok user pointed out the contrast between tourist experiences and local realities: "Because you went to a popular city no doubt.
