Passionate Sven Sprangler declared signing for St Johnstone was one of the happiest days of his life. The Austrian midfielder has penned a two-year deal with the Perth club after impressing boss Steven MacLean on trial.

Sprangler most recently played for SK Vorwärts Steyr in Austria. “Honestly, it is one of the happiest days of my life,” he said of his Perth move. “It is a dream come true to play in Scotland. “When I was young, I always wanted to be a part of a club.

I’m very happy about it.” Sprangler (28) admits he has always been keen to test himself in the Scottish game. “In Scotland they are physical and aggressive,” he said. “I’m the type who plays like that.

For me, it is the perfect next step. “All Scottish people are very friendly and love football. Football is like a religion for them - it is the same for me.” He is quickly settling in with his new team-mates and has been impressed by the standard. “The team-mates are amazing and high level in training,” Sprangler added. “I love the intensity. “I know it will be tough competition with these guys because they are amazing.
