Asian Games: India, South Korea Play Out 1-1 Draw In Women's Hockey

The Indian women's hockey team was held to a 1-1 draw by South Korea but the Savita Punia-led unbeaten side still continued to lead its pool in the Asian Games in Hangzhou on Sunday.

Navneet Kaur (44th min) scored the equaliser for the higher-ranked India after Cho Hyejin (12th) had put South Korea ahead at the Gongshu Canal Sports Park Stadium.

India crushed Singapore 13-0 in the opener before notching a 6-0 win over Malaysia. Both teams looked to score from the word go but the Koreans had the first opportunity of the match when Cho Hyejin shot at the goal.

Continuing its dominating performance, India men's hockey team defeated South Korea 5-3 in the semi-final to set up a summit clash at the Asian Games. Hardik Singh (5'), Mandeep Singh (11'), Lalit Kumar Upadhyay (15'), Amit Rohidas (24') and Abhishek (54') scored to guide the Indian men's hockey team to the final. Jung Manjae (17', 20', 42') scored a hat-trick for South Korea. The Indian men's hockey team will face the winner of the other semi-final match between China and Japan in the gold medal match on Friday.
The Indian women's team failed to qualify for the quarterfinal of sport climbing's speed relay event, finishing a disappointing last in the qualifying round at the Asian Games on Wednesday. The Indian trio of Shivani Charak, Shivpreet Pannu and Anisha Verma recorded a timing of 39.598 seconds in the six-team qualifying round. China topped the qualifying round clocking 21.877s, followed by South Korea, Indonesia and Kazakhstan. All the four teams have progressed to the last-eight round.
