Arsenal are ‘expected’ to move for midfield signings on deadline day and are ‘looking at opportunities’, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano. Mikel Arteta has overseen a busy summer of business at the Emirates Stadium but is running out of time to strengthen his squad further ahead of the 11pm cut-off.
One name the Gunners have seemingly held a long-term interest in is Leicester City’s Youri Tielemans. Back in May, it was understood that Arteta was pushing for the Gunners to complete a deal for the talented Belgian, with Leicester apparently willing to sell him for £25 million as he entered the final year of his contract.
But, more recently, the Athletic have claimed Arsenal would only move for Tielemans if they made room in their own squad by selling Granit Xhaka.
However, the same outlet reported that Mohamed Elneny suffered a serious injury in the 2-1 victory over Fulham last weekend while filling in for Thomas Partey, which could well see the Gunners return to the market.
