Mumbai Indians will take on Punjab Kings in Saturday's evening clash in IPL 2023 at the Wankhede Stadium. In their previous outing, MI edged out SunRisers Hyderabad on the road, with Arjun Tendulkar, son of batting great Sachin Tendulkar, defending 20 runs in the last over.

On the penultimate ball of the match, Arjun dismissed SRH's Bhuvneshwar Kumar to pick up his maiden IPL wicket, a feat which his father failed to achieve during his time in the cash-rich league.

Speaking ahead of MI's game against PBKS, former India head coach Ravi Shastri praised Arjun for showing "clarity of thought" while bowling the last over against SRH. "There was a clarity of thought in the way Arjun executed those yorkers in the final over.

He worked brilliantly on the change of pace and he now has achieved something which his father couldn't. Sachin never had an IPL wicket, and Arjun has surpassed him," Shastri said on Star Sports' 'Cricket Live' show.

MS Dhoni's Chennai Super Kings are sitting pretty in the IPL 2023 points table at the second spot with 13 points in 11 games. While they have lost two out of their last four games while one was washed out, Dhoni's team are still a notch above the rest with most teams on 10 points having played the same number or one less game than CSK. The buzz has been going around that this might be the 41-year-old Dhoni's last IPL, though he is yet to officially confirm the same.
The IPL 2023 is being closely followed - not only the matches but also what happens after the matches. The incident involving Virat Kohli, Gautam Gambhir, Naveen-ul-Haq for example. Royal Challengers Bangalore star Kohli's altercation with Lucknow Super Giants mentor Gambhir and player Naveen got wide publicity. Then, after Delhi Capitals' first leg match against RCB, Kohli missing a handshake with DC Director of Cricket Ganguly raised all kinds of speculation. Then again, the duo's handshake after the second leg of the two teams match also made the headlines.
Former India coach Ravi Shastri on Monday advised Virat Kohli that he must not drop the tempo of his innings after getting a start as his consistent 'bat-deep' approach triggered a debate if such batting style is suited for T20 cricket. Kohli's approach was questioned after he made 55 off 46 balls in a losing cause against Delhi Capitals at the Feroz Shah Kotla on Saturday night. It was his sixth fifty plus score of the season but the pace of his innings probably cost the team another 20 runs.
Former India head coach Ravi Shastri believes Mumbai Indians (MI) captain Rohit Sharma's workload "have doubled" in the past years and said that not being in form with the bat has affected Rohit's captaincy as well. Rohit is the most thriving captain in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL), having led MI to five title victories- the highest in the IPL - in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020. They did, however, have one of their worst seasons last year, finishing last on the standings with only four victories in 14 games. Prior to pulling together a couple of victories, they also dropped their first two games this season. They are now ranked sixth in the standings.
Rajasthan Royals will host table-toppers Gujarat Titans in their next reverse fixture of IPL 2023 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium on Friday. Having suffered defeats in their previous games, both teams will be eager to return to winning ways. The finalists of IPL 2022 have carried their form to this season and looked like the team to beat this year as well. RR - who are being led by Sanju Samson - and Hardik Pandya's GT look front-runners in the playoffs race. It will be the final game before IPL 2023 witnesses the rivalry week.
With the ICC World Test Championship final not far and Rohit Sharma's peak fitness not an absolute guarantee, former India head coach Ravi Shastri made an interesting 'captaincy suggestion'. Shastri believes that if for some reason Rohit isn't available to lead India, Virat Kohli should be given the team's baton. In fact, Shastri felt the same should've happened in the rescheduled Birmingham Test where Jasprit Bumrah was given the team's command in Rohit's absence even though Kohli was a part of the team.
