Aoife Mannion has committed her future to Manchester United by signing a contract extension with the Women's Super League club. The Republic of Ireland international, who did not make the squad for the Women's World Cup, joined United in the summer of 2021 and so far has made 28 appearances. However, Mannion's time at United has been blighted by injury, with the defender suffering two anterior cruciate ligament injuries.Mannion returned to action in January, only for her to then sustain a small tweak to her medial collateral ligament just before the end of the season. And while her club were hopeful the latter setback would not rule her out of Vera Pauw's World Cup plans, Mannion was not named in the final squad for the tournament. The 27-year-old made Ireland debut against China in February after switching allegiances from England.

She won a second cap against the USA in April. On extending her stay at United, Mannion said: "I'm so delighted to be staying here at United.

It was an easy choice for me and I'm really pleased to continue this journey and see where we can go over the next few seasons."
