After a 1.5-day end finish to the second Test between India and South Africa, a lot has been said and written about the pitch that was used in the match.

Team India emerged triumphant in the contest but not before 23 wickets fell on the opening day. India captain Rohit Sharma also publicly criticised the indifferent verdicts from match referees when it comes to early conclusion of contests in India and overseas.

Now, ICC match referee Chris Broad has announced his rating for the Newlands pitch. The match referee has given an 'unsatisfactory' rating to the pitch used in the second Test between India and South Africa, also handing a demerit point. "The pitch in Newlands was very difficult to bat on.

The ball bounced quickly and sometimes alarmingly throughout the match, making it difficult to play shots. Several batters were hit on the gloves and many wickets also fell due to the awkward bounce," Broad said.

The top order includes openers Rohit and Shubman Gill. While the Indian captain accumulated 1,255 runs at an average of 52 last year, the latter struck a brilliant 208 against the Kiwis and also finished as the highest run-scorer (1,584) in the format.
India beat Afghanistan in third T20 International after two thrilling super overs in Bengaluru on Wednesday. Chasing 212, Afghanistan too ended with the same score. Earlier, riding on skipper Rohit Sharma's unbeaten 69-ball 121 and Rinku Singh's 69 off 39 deliveries, India staged a remarkable recovery to post 212 for four after slipping to 22 for four in the fifth over.
The Indian cricket team has the 3-match T20I series against Afghanistan in their kitty, having won the first two matches convincingly. While the likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shivam Dube, Ravi Bishnoi, Axar Patel, etc. have impressed, skipper Rohit Sharma's form hasn't been the best. After getting run-out in the first match without opening his account, Rohit fell for a duck in the second match too. Though there is no question about the Hitman's ability, former India cricketer Aakash Chopra has questioned his shot selection after the strange dismissal in the second T20I on Sunday.

Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra wants senior Indian batters Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to open during the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup in the West Indies and USA, saying that the pitches at the venue will be such that there will be better chances at scoring runs in the first six overs of the innings. Rohit and Virat will be playing together in a T20I match for the first time in over one year since India's crushing loss to England in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 when they meet Afghanistan in the second T20I at Indore on Sunday. India leads the series 1-0.
