2023-24 Home Season: India To Play Three ODIs, Eight T20Is And Five Tests

India will get to fine tune their World Cup preparations with a three-match ODI series against Australia besides playing eight T20 Internationals and five Tests against England during the 2023-2024 home season.

The first ODI against Australia will be in Mohali on September 22 with Indore and Rajkot hosting the remaining two on September 24 and 27 respectively.

The BCCI announced the home season schedule on Tuesday. As BCCI secretary Jay Shah had indicated, venues like Mohali, Nagpur, Rajkot, Indore, Thiruvananthapuram, all of which have missed out on hosting World Cup games, have been compensated during the home season with minimum two games each.

With the BCCI set to announce the media rights tender during the course of this week, it was a necessary to announce the calendar and one of the striking feature is absence of any ODI game after the World Cup at home in October-November.

Up against West Indies in tour that consisted of 2 Tests, 3 ODIs and 5 T20Is, the expectations from the subcontinent giants was that they would produce clean sweeps across formats. But, the reality was something else. The Test series resulted in a 1-0 win for India, with one drawn Test while the ODI assignment saw the team produce a 2-1 win. But, it was in the shortest format that the team was up for a shock. The blockbuster India v Pakistan clash is one of nine matches to be rescheduled for the 50-over World Cup later this year as the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced on Wednesday that tickets will go on sale on Aug. 25.

Last month, after much wait, the Asia Cup 2023 schedule was finally announced by Jay Shah, BCCI secretary and Asian Cricket Council (ACC) head. The timings of the matches were announced on Tuesday. This time the tournament is being played in a hybrid model, after Shah declared last year that India would not be travelling to Pakistan for the event. The tournament will begin with a match between Pakistan and Nepal in Multan, Pakistan, on August 30. The much-awaited India-Pakistan clash will take place in Kandy, Sri Lanka, on September 2. India will face Nepal in the other group stage match on September 4 at the same venue.

Team India suffered a narrow defeat to West Indies in the opening game of the five-match T20I series on Thursday. India put up another underwhelming batting display as they could manage only 152/7 in the second T20I against the West Indies, which the hosts won by two wickets. India's World Cup match against Pakistan has been moved to October 14 from October 15, BCCI sources told NDTV. The India versus Pakistan match had to be rescheduled due to issues with regards to deployment of security on the first day of Navratri festival in Ahmedabad. The ICC and BCCI had approached the PCB for the rescheduling of two of its group matches including the one against India in Ahmedabad. The International Cricket Council (ICC), will soon release an updated schedule as apparently few other games involving other teams would also be rescheduled.
