James McClean signs new two-year contract with Wrexham

James McClean has signed a new two-year contract with League One side Wrexham after helping them gain promotion last season.

The 35-year-old former Ireland international swapped Wigan Athletic for the Welsh club last year, where he has made 44 appearances and scored four goals across all competitions so far.

"I’m obviously delighted. Since I’ve been here, I’ve really enjoyed it and to be given the opportunity to continue that for another two seasons is something I’m really looking forward to," club captain McClean said in a statement.

He added: "It’s been successful so far and hopefully there’s more success to come over the next two seasons."

Under the stewardship of high-profile owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney Wrexham has achieved back-to-back promotions.

Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson said he was "pleased" the former Derry City man has signed on until the end of the 2026 season.

"He was excellent for us last season, and we’re looking forward to continuing to work with him."
