The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has imposed a fine of N1 million on Enyimba FC for making disparaging comments about match officials following their recent match against Ikorodu City.
In a statement released on their X account, the NPFL stated that the club’s remarks after their 2-1 victory over Ikorodu City were deemed inappropriate and potentially damaging to the integrity of the game.
The league body cautioned Enyimba against publishing inflammatory statements in the future and urged the club to utilise appropriate channels for lodging complaints, warning that further violations could lead to more severe penalties.
Enyimba has the right to appeal the sanction within 48 hours of receiving the notice.
In a related matter, Kano Pillars was fined N2 million for comments made by their player Ahmed Musa, who criticised the officiating after their loss to Nasarawa United. Musa’s remarks expressed doubts about the quality of officiating in the NPFL and suggested that it might deter players from returning to the league.
Kano Pillars was also penalised for failing to maintain proper conduct during the match, which led to the unruly behaviour of player Ugochukwu Gabriel.
The cumulative fine for both offenses amounts to N2 million.
