It’s been just over a year since Jay Howard decided on a whim to submit an application to marry a stranger. And just a couple of months later, she was tying the knot to that very stranger - being Luke Worley.
The 32-year-old, who hails from Accrington in Lancashire, is now single. Viewers saw over nine weeks of Married At First Sight on E4, things didn’t quite work out for the pair despite viewers rooting for them as a couple.
Months on from the show, Jay can look back on the ‘whirlwind’ experience with a laugh and a smile. “I randomly thought, I’d apply for the craic because they wouldn’t want me anyway,” she told the Manchester Evening News.

“But I wanted to find someone - my forever person. I’m in my 30s now and I need to settle down. I’m looking to [start] a family in the near future so I thought, I’m doing terribly at finding my own person so I just thought I’d leave it in the hands of the experts. Lo and behold, they found me a match... which was mental!”
Jay says the process to getting to the aisle was ‘intense’ with ‘very in-depth’ questionnaires and interviews. She added: “It’s not just a case of them asking what your type is and them saying 'we’ve found you someone tall, dark and handsome so we’ll match you with them.’ It’s a lot more than that - it’s personality traits, what you find attractive, morals, upbringing. It’s very in-depth and the matching process, it’s a long time.”
She added: “They did match me and Luke very well, as everybody saw… It’s just sad it didn’t work out in the end. I do still think
