Strong finish keeps Power well in touch at the Sanderson Farms Championship

An eagle and birdie over the closing holes propelled Seamus Power up the leaderboard at the Sanderson Farms Championship midway on day two at the Country Club of Jackson in Mississippi.

Power carded a five-under par 67 on Friday to sit on 11-under par, four strokes adrift of current leader Beau Hossler and in a tie for 11th spot.

The Waterford golfer carded an opening round 66 but made an uneven start on Friday, with three birdies on his outward nine undermined by dropped strokes at the fourth and eighth, both the result of poor approaches.

However, Power shot back up the leaderboard over the closing stretch, playing the final six holes in -4, including a stunning eagle two at the 312 yard short par-4 16th.

FULL LEADERBOARD

Power, who recorded his only top-10 finish of the season at the FedEx St Jude Championship in August, is seeking a first win on the PGA Tour since his triumph at the Bermuda Championship in October 2022.

Hossler leads on 15-under par after recording an eagle and seven birdies en route to a 64. He heads the field by one stroke from 2021 Ryder Cup player Daniel Berger. Jacob Bridgeman, Keith Mitchell, and David Skinns, the overnight leader who carded an opening 60, share third spot on -13.

Skinns missed a nine-footer on the final hole that would seen him card 59 in round one.

Former US Open champions Gary Woodland and Lucas Glover are in the group of players in a tie for fourth on -12.
