Zwane says 'age is but a number' after scoring a brace on Bafana return

After making a return to the Bafana squad for the first time in a year, Sundowns midfielder Themba Zwane repaid the faith shown by coach Hugo Broos by scoring a brace against Sierra Leone.  

Zwane is happy to be back in the team and amongst the goals. 

"I'm feeling happy, we did well as a team and we done what we were supposed to do on the field," said Zwane. 

"It's been a long time since I scored goals for the national team and it makes me happy."

With Broos calling Zwane up to the national team for the first time under his tenure, it could have been seen as a gamble by Broos to throw him back in the starting line-up.

However, Zwane produced an inspired performance and was described as the 'missing link' by his coach.

When asked by reporters about being labelled as the missing link, Zwane highlighted his style of play is a key reason.  

"All I can say is coaches have different philosophies and I think the style of play suits me," said Zwane.

"I need to keep on pushing, there are more games coming and I need to do well for my team (Sundowns) so that I can be called up for the national team (again)." 

Reporters asked Zwane if the performance was carried out with a point to prove against Broos, Zwane insisted that this was not the case.

"No, not at all. I was enjoying my game and showed appreciation for the call-up because it always feels good and I was just doing my job."

Playing with a point to prove or not, the 33-year-old's performance ensured that he reminded his coach of his abilities and that age is nothing but a number.
