Zelda Breath of the Wild 2 finally gets a title and release date

The Legend of Zelda is one of Nintendo’s biggest franchises and was first released in the late 80s. In 2017, Breath of the Wild was released and is widely considered the best game of the entire franchise and fans have patiently awaited a sequel ever since.

Nintendo has hinted at a sequel since 2019 but finally announced the official title and release date for the much anticipated game on September 13, 2022. Fans will be delighted to know that The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will go on sale on May 12, 2023.

In the Nintendo Direct announcement, the company closed the roundup of upcoming releases and projects with a trailer for Tears of the Kingdom. This short teaser trailer showed main character Link flying through the skies above Hyrule where the franchise is set.

Not much is known about the plot for Tears of the Kingdom but all the images in the teaser trailer appear to show action predominantly in the clouds rather than on the ground. Nintendo’s website reads: “The setting for Link’s adventure has been expanded to include the skies above the vast lands of Hyrule.”

In Breath of the Wild, Link returns to Hyrule after 100 years to find that the land has been ravaged by Calamity Ganon. Players must unlock Link’s memories and restore the Guardians to defeat Ganon once and for all.

The game is often called a masterpiece for its stunning visuals and vibrant open world game play. When it was released most critics gave Breath of the Wild the highest ratings possible and declared it as one of the greatest games of all time.
