'Your name doesn't matter!' Patrick Vieira warns Frank Lampard ahead of FA Cup clash

Patrick Vieira has warned Frank Lampard he won’t survive in management on the basis of his status as a Premier League legend.

The former Chelsea star cut his teeth in management at Derby County before returning to Stamford Bridge where he spent 18 tumultuous months before he was sacked by Roman Abramovich.

After nearly a year out of the game, Lampard was hired by struggling Everton who are currently embroiled in a relegation battle.

The Toffees and Lampard earned themselves some much needed breathing space with a last-gasp win over Everton last night ahead of this weekend’s FA Cup quarter-final tie against Crystal Palace.

Vieira, like Lampard, has also endured a mixed start to his managerial career but has made a significant impact at Selhurst Park since succeeding Roy Hodgson in the summer.

‘I played against Frank for a couple of years and worked with him at New York,’ said the former Arsenal captain, ‘I don’t want to say I know him well but we know each other.

‘When he was playing at New York and I was coaching the team of course we spent a lot of time talking about football and how we see the game.

‘Seeing him as a coach at Chelsea and Everton, he had a really good experience as manager.

‘We had the same route: ex-players who want to do well at managing. We both know how difficult it is because he got the sack at Chelsea and I got the sack at Nice.

‘Your name doesn’t matter. What matters is the result and the way the team plays.’
