Young woman dies after accident at Co Galway camogie match
A Galway camogie player has died following an accident in a senior league game in the county yesterday.
The woman, who was in her early 20s, was rushed to University Hospital Galway from the GAA grounds, but she died from her injuries this morning.
The collision occurred in Ardrahan during a club match against Athenry. Emergency services treated the player at the scene before she was taken to University Hospital Galway.
The player is from a well-known GAA family in the Athenry area and Galway Camogie has postponed all of its games this week as a mark of respect.
A member of the Galway Camogie Board said the local community was in deep shock and counselling was being provided for players at the club.
A Mass was held for the woman this morning before news of her death was confirmed.
