“You’ll die in Crete”, Bolton thug told partner during ferocious holiday attack after downing 20 drinks

A violent thug who had downed ten pints and cocktails told his girlfriend “you’ll die in Crete” during a shocking sunshine holiday attack. She was left treating her own injury with nail glue.

Kyle Speight, 36, left his now ex partner physically and mentally scarred by a series of violent assaults earlier this year tiggered by his jealously after taking drugs and alcohol. In a deeply moving impact statement his victim said: “The only way this could have been worse is if I was dead.”

Details of Speight’s cowardly attacks were outlined as he was sentenced at Carlisle Crown Court today. After Speight and the woman met online, he quickly moved from his Bolton home into her Penrith home.

“The relationship lasted a mere 16 weeks,” said prosecutor Kim Whittlestone. “But within those 16 weeks the victim was subjected to numerous violent offences by this defendant.” The woman’s mother believed from an early stage that Speight was “love-bombing” her daughter as the relationship progressed very quickly.

After a night out in Penrith, Speight became drunk, jealous and punched the woman to her face, causing bruising.

“It is clear from the evidence in the case that the defendant when in drink, when on drugs — which is something he admits himself in text messages — became jealous,” said Miss Whittlestone. “A combination of his jealously when in drink or drugs, appears to be a catalyst for his offending behaviour.”

Four days later, as they attending a wedding in Whitehaven, Speight subjected the woman to prolonged violence in a hotel bedroom. During a 15-minute ordeal, Speight struck her to the head and body, kneeling on her back up to her neck,
