'You know nothing about football' - Erik ten Hag sends brutal message to Manchester United critics

Erik ten Hag has rounded on critics who want him sacked as Manchester United manager and said they know nothing about football, insisting that supporters had patience in the work he is doing.

Ten Hag is under mounting pressure at Old Trafford after Monday's 4-0 defeat at Crystal Palace. That was their 13th defeat of the league season, a club record in the Premier League era, and they are eighth with just three games to go.

Ineos have yet to make their stance clear on Ten Hag's future but after the nature of Monday's dismal defeat, the calls for him to go at the end of the season have got louder, although the away end remained supportive of their side until the very end at Selhurst Park.

Ten Hag can also point to the patience afforded to Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, who finished eighth in his first two seasons at the club and saw his side bottom of the Premier League after three games of the following campaign, before eventually seeing his project come good.

The United manager will hope he is afforded similar patience by Sir Jim Ratcliffe and said the critics who didn't understand the need for patience and constraints he has worked under this season didn't have knowledge of the game or of the job.

"I think the fans have the patience, you’ve seen it on Monday," he said. "I see some comments they don’t, either they don’t have any knowledge of football or they don't have any knowledge about managing a football team or they just aren’t up to it. I think there are many people who see the problems and they are patient."
