“You'd be foolish not to” – Journalist drops West Ham transfer claim on brilliant Brazil wizard

West Ham United would ‘be foolish’ not to explore the possibility of signing Barcelona midfielder Philippe Coutinho, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The 29-year-old joined Premier League rivals Aston Villa on loan in the January transfer window and have the option to make his stay permanent for £33 million.

Coutinho outlined his desire to recapture his best form after making the surprise switch to Villa Park this winter, and he’s certainly made a fast start to life in the Midlands.

The 66-cap Brazil international scored after coming off the bench to make his debut against Manchester United before adding another strike and two assists in a thrilling 3-3 draw with Leeds and another two goal contributions last time out against Southampton.

According to reports in Spain, both West Ham and Arsenal are interested snapping up the South American playmaker as they look to break into the top four places.

David Moyes’ charges failed to bolster their ranks with any new signings in January but are expected to be in the market for several players in the summer after seeing bids turned down for the likes of Darwin Nunez and Raphinha.

Coutinho became one of the most expensive players of all time after Barcelona shelled out £142 million to prise him away from Liverpool back in January 2018.

The diminutive star had registered 99 goal contributions in 201 appearances for the Reds but couldn’t replicate that sort of form at the Camp Nou, leading to his recent exit.
