"He'd prefer to have Lingard" - Journalist drops big David Moyes claim involving West Ham ace

West Ham boss David Moyes would rather have Jesse Lingard at his disposal than Said Benrahma, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The two attacking midfielders were both in the West Ham squad for the second half of last season, before Lingard returned to Manchester United in the summer when his loan spell ended.

Back at Old Trafford, Lingard has had a campaign to forget so far.

The 29-year-old has been limited to one Premier League start, and he has chipped in with just two goals in his 13 top-flight appearances.

Meanwhile, Benrahma, who arrived at West Ham in October 2020 in a deal worth £25m, has been far more involved at the London Stadium.

Across the course of the season, he has featured in 25 league matches, scoring five goals and delivering six assists. Two of those assists came in West Ham’s 2-1 win against Aston Villa on Sunday.

The Irons were very interested in signing Lingard permanently at the start of the season but they failed to reach an agreement with United.

Since then, Lingard has been largely watching on from the bench at Old Trafford, while Benrahma has kicked on in his second season under Moyes.

However, Jones still thinks Moyes would choose the England international over Benrahma if he had the option.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Jones said: “I think he’d prefer to have Lingard than Benrahma, mainly because he’s a better footballer.”

Lingard made a major impact when he went to West Ham last season as he was directly involved in 14 goals in just 16 appearances for the club.

Looking at those numbers, it is easy to see why they were keen to turn his temporary stay into a permanent one.
