Xbox: Microsoft confirms controller shortage

Microsoft has confirmed a shortage of Xbox controllers after a number of retailers completely sold out this month, as per Video Games Chronicle.

VGC reports that a wide variety of major retailers in multiple regions are totally sold out of Xbox Wireless Controllers and there appears to be a real scarcity of the controllers across Europe.

In the UK, there are no controllers in stock at GAME, Smyths, Argos, Currys, or the official Microsoft store.

All colours are out of stock, too.

VGC also reports that this has led scalpers to hike the price of used controllers; the third-party prices for a black controller on Amazon are £93.99, which is around double the official price on the Microsoft store.

There are also said to be issues in Australia, France and Germany, along with the Netherlands.

Xbox has now confirmed the shortage of controllers to VGC.

A spokesperson said: “We know it may be hard finding Xbox Wireless Controllers right now due to supply disruptions.

“We’re working as fast as possible with our manufacturing and retail partners to improve this. Please check with your local retailer for availability.”

Stock is said to be much more readily available in the United States but it remains to be seen if that changes.

Of course, there have been huge supply issues ever since the release of the next generation of consoles, with the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X particularly affected.

Gamers have struggled to get their hands on those consoles, although there have been fewer issues with the Xbox Series S.

Controllers shortages have not been very prevalent, though, so Microsoft will hope to sort this out as quickly as possible.
