Wycombe Wanderers' Game Temporarily Delayed After Disgraceful Chants Towards Adebayo Akinfenwa

Wycombe Wanderers' game against MK Dons on Saturday afternoon had to be delayed after offensive chants towards Adebayo Akinfenwa by the away fans.

Akinfenwa was a substitute as the Dons visited Adams Park in League One on Saturday, when away fans started to chant at him as he warmed up.

The vile abuse caused anger from Wycombe manager Gareth Ainsworth and an announcement over the public announce system called for fans to refrain from the abuse.

However they did not listen to the announcement and instead continued to sing in the striker's direction, leading to Ainsworth to speak to the referee.

Akinfenwa also confronted the singing away fans, as the game had to be temporarily delayed as the situation was dealt with by the officials.

Akinfenwa is a former AFC Wimbledon player and helped the club get promoted from League Two back in 2016, when they went up from the play-offs.

The larger than life striker, both in physical appearance and his gleaming personality, scored in the final against Plymouth Argyle in injury time from the penalty spot.

The 39-year-old then grabbed the headlines with his post match interview, in which he told clubs to 'hit him up' on Whatsapp after getting released by the club.

The striker has previously been asked if he'd ever sign for MK Dons and he replied by saying "Not even if they built a nandos in my house," the ultimate insult.

His success with Wimbledon, and his clear disdain for the club unaffectionately known as 'the Franchise' by fans of the south London club, will probably be why they started their offensive chant.

Despite the provocation and the confrontation, Akinfenwa still managed to make fans of the home team smile on Saturday, as he met with young fans at half time to take pictures.
