WWE SummerSlam: Io Shirai reveals new name after making shock main roster debut

Bayley returned to WWE at SummerSlam last night, confronting Bianca Belair after her Raw Women’s Championship match with Becky Lynch.

Belair won the match, which was a rematch from last year’s SummerSlam event, with this title clash opening the show.

After the match, Becky and Bianca embraced in the middle of the ring, but that wasn’t the last of the newsworthy angles

Bayley then returned to confront Bianca, after missing over a year of TV due to injury, but she didn’t come alone.

Bayley then brought out former WWE Superstar Dakota Kai, as well as former NXT Women’s Champion Io Shirai, immediately forming a mouth-watering trio upon her return.

The segment was rather exciting, with many fans feeling it was Triple H’s way of signifying that things are going to be different now that he’s running WWE creative.

However, fans noticed during the segment that commentary referred to Io Shirai as ‘Io Sky’, with many speculating that this could have just been an error from the announcers.

However, that isn’t the case, as the 32-year-old has taken to Twitter to reveal that she does now have a new name.

Io Shirai will now be going by ‘IYO SKY’, and as far as name changes go in WWE, this one really isn’t too bad.

Io was rumoured to be leaving WWE at the end of her contract, which was believed to be coming up pretty soon.

However, the promise of a spot on the main roster seems to have tempted her into staying, the first big win for Stephanie McMahon, Nick Khan and Triple H now that they’re running WWE.

The new trio creates some interesting match-up
