WWE Royal Rumble: Scrapped plans for former WWE Champion emerge

WWE scrapped plans for an interaction between Bron Breakker and Dolph Ziggler during the 2022 men’s Royal Rumble match.

Taking to Twitter over the weekend, Bron Breakker poked fun at Dolph Ziggler for being eliminated from the men’s Royal Rumble match by Bad Bunny.

Following on from that, Ziggler cut a promo about Breakker backstage during WWE Raw, suggesting that he may come down to Orlando and take the NXT title off Bron.

It seems like this is going to start a feud between the two, but it has now emerged that WWE originally had another idea for how they wanted to get the storyline going.

In the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer explains that at one stage, Bron Breakker was planned to enter the Royal Rumble, where his feud with Dolph Ziggler was going to start.

However, the idea and spot were scrapped when the powers that be made the decision to have no NXT involvement in the Royal Rumble pay-per-view.

There was some talk of doing a Bron Breakker spot with Dolph Ziggler to build NXT, but the decision was made not to have anyone from NXT in the Rumble.

Prior to the event, it had been reported that along with Gunther (formerly WALTER), WWE was planning on having Bron Breakker as part of the Royal Rumble, but that didn’t end up happening.

The spot was going to be used to help elevate NXT, but that will likely still be WWE’s intention with a Ziggler and Breakker feud seemingly on the horizon.

As of right now, the plans that WWE has for Ziggler and Breakker aren’t exactly clear, so make sure you stay tuned to GiveMeSport for any potential updates on the matter.

You can watch WWE NXT every single week over here in the UK on BT Sport.
