Making Her Mark February 13 2000
Lita debuted as valet to Essa Rios on an episode of Sunday Night Heat in February 2000 and from the off it was clear this was no ordinary WWE ‘diva’. Throughout the match – where Rios defeated Gillberg to capture the WWF Light Heavyweight Championship – Lita mimicked the moves of Rios, including both a moonsault and a hurricanrana immediately after Essa had performed them on his opponent.
Her ability to execute such eye-catching moves and her sassy all-red look made her quickly standout, and it wasn’t before long that her stock become much higher than that of her partner.
Team Extreme June 15 2000
Following a quick spilt from Essa Rios, Lita was paired with The Hardy Boys and the trio became known as Team Extreme. The alliance was cemented during a SmackDown show in June 2000, when Lita came to the aid of Matt and Jerry following a post-match beatdown from T&A and Trish Stratus. Gone was her sultry red attire and in its place a grungier, more on-trend look in keeping with the popular Hardys.
Not only did that night kick-start her run with the iconic tag team, but began her lifetime link with Trish, who she’d share the ring with both as friend and most notably foe for many years to come.
