A former Wrexham AFC player who suffers from dementia was close to tears when he was told by his daughter that he would be the guest of honour at the club's Wembley appearance next month. Gareth Davies, who made over 500 appearances for the club between 1967 and 1983, was reacting to a pledge made by the Dragons Hollywood co-chairmen Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney online.
Bangor born ex-defender Davies played for the youth teams of Llandudno and Colwyn Bay before cementing himself in Wrexham folklore with a legendary 16 year spell at the Racecourse. Sadly, in recent years, the 72-year-old's health has declined, with Davies currently wheelchair-bound, living in a local care home as he battles dementia.
Last week, Martin Evans, whose wife used to take care of Davies, launched a bid to get him to Wembley as the club's guest of honour. The campaign gathered momentum online before Ryan Reynolds responded with a tweet on Saturday which read: "Rob and I will make sure
