Wrexham AFC captain Ben Tozer reveals struggles during last season and his hopes for new campaign

Wrexham AFC club captain Ben Tozer has reflected on his own performances since joining the Dragons last summer - and also insisted that Phil Parkinson's men are doubly determined to right the wrongs of the last campaign. Wrexham had a disappointing end to the 2021/22 season, losing the FA Trophy final and then tasting defeat against Grimsby in the National League play offs.

Speaking to North Wales Live ahead of Wrexham's pre season game at Nantwich Town on Saturday (3pm kick off), Tozer said that those experiences will make the Reds even stronger this season. The 32-year-old centre-half also spoke about the three new signings, saying that he has been hugely impressed with them in training.

Tozer joined Wrexham from Cheltenham Town in August last year and was a consistent performer in the heart of defence. Despite that, the former Northampton Town and Newport County man revealed that he often struggled with the travelling until his recent change in living circumstances.

Reflecting on last season, Tozer was happy with his personal contribution to the side, but also revealed that he often struggled with the long-distance commute from his home in the south-west of England. Having now moved closer to Wrexham, he feels that his change in living circumstances will help his performances on the field.

Tozer said: "I thought I had a decent season - I'm not a 10/10 every week sort of player, I'm more of a steady Eddie who tries to be consistent and you know what you're going to get from me. When I first came in I didn't realise how tiring the travelling was going to be and it probably took its toll on me.
