Wrestling Federation opens Paris 2024 camp in Yenagoa
The Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWFL) has opened its preparatory camp for wrestlers in preparation for the Paris 2024 Olympics.
The President of NWF, Daniel Igali, said in a statement on Thursday that a training camp opened in Yenagoa, Bayelsa, on Wednesday.
Igali also said that the Federation had the mandate to ensure that Nigerian wrestlers perform optimally in the wrestling event at the Olympics.
“We have a mandate to ensure that we achieve a podium finish at the Olympics. That’s reason enough to put all machinery in place for optimum performance,” Igali said.
He added that Tokyo 2020 silver medalist, Blessing Oborodudu, would lead six other Team Nigeria wrestlers, comprising of five females and one male, to the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Igali further said that the Wrestling Federation had earlier this month sponsored a two-week camp for the wrestlers, prior to Mercy Genesis’ participation at the World Wrestling Olympic qualifier in Istanbul, Turkey.
“Wrestlers going for the Paris Olympics are 68kg Blessing Oborodudu (68kg), Odunayo Adekuoroye (57kg), Ogunsanya Christinah (53kg) and Esther Kolawole (62kg).
“Ashton Mutuwa (125kg) is the only qualified male wrestler heading to Paris,” he added.
