'Wow', 'Absolutely scandalous' - Many Leeds fans shocked by Graham Smyth's 'madness' update

Many Leeds United fans have been left rather frustrated with manager Marcelo Bielsa after hearing he hasn’t asked the club to sign a new striker.

In a recent article by journalist Graham Smyth for the Yorkshire Evening Post, the writer explained how key striker Patrick Bamford may not be ready to be counted upon in the club’s next game.

With that in mind, it puts pressure on the likes of Rodrigo, Joe Gelhardt and Tyler Roberts to perform up front. Between them, however, they have scored just four goals all season ahead of their trip to Aston Villa in a fortnight’s time.

On that basis, Bielsa may have been inclined to ask Leeds to sign him a new goalscorer in the current January transfer window. But when Smyth shared his article on Twitter, he made it clear that the manager had done no such thing, saying: “He’s not asking for a new striker.”

On that line of thinking, he also added that if the club are to make a signing, the current situation is that it will be ‘Brenden Aaronson or nothing’. It’s safe to say the update was not greeted with much positivity by the club’s fanbase.

“Wow.”

Taking a look at the comments above, it’s not as though these fans are very happy with their manager right now.

Multiple injuries have kept Bamford to making just one 22-minute cameo in the league since he played against Newcastle United back in mid-September. And considering the aforementioned goalscoring troubles the other strikers in the Leeds team are having, it would make sense for the club to go out and sign a new striker.

But if Smyth’s claim is accurate, it really doesn’t sound as if any reinforcements will be made in that department this winter.
