"Wouldn't be a bad option" - Journalist drops Man Utd verdict on potential Henderson replacement
Manchester United target Karl Darlow “wouldn’t be a bad” backup option to David De Gea, according to The Express journalist Ryan Taylor.
With Dean Henderson being heavily linked with a move away from Old Trafford, incoming manager Erik ten Hag will need to sign a replacement, and Taylor believes that Darlow would be a good choice.
According to the Manchester Evening News, Henderson, who failed to make a single appearance in the Premier League last season, is close to signing for Newcastle, having recently held talks with the St James’ Park outfit.
Therefore, United need to replace him in the squad, and The Sun reckon they’re targeting a move for Darlow, who could be part of the move which sees Henderson move in the opposite direction.
The report says that Darlow, who hasn’t played for the Toon Army since November after losing his place in the side to Martin Dubravka, could be signed as cover for De Gea.
Despite his lack of game-time, the 31-year-old has played 99 times for Newcastle, 52 of which have come in the league, and Taylor believes that he would be an adequate replacement for the outgoing Henderson.
He told GIVEMESPORT: “We did see the benefits of having a competitive number two last season when Henderson pushed De Gea.
“But if Henderson was to leave, it’s clear they would need someone capable of stepping up, and with the Europa League they might want to share the minutes, so Darlow wouldn’t be a bad option.”
