‘Would it really excite me?’ – Arsenal advised to ‘steer clear’ of Premier League striker

Kevin Campbell has advised Arsenal to “steer clear” of Everton and England centre-forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin this summer.

It was reported earlier this week that the striker ‘favours’ a move to the Gunners.

The striker signed for Everton in 2016 for around £1.5m from Sheffield United.

Four reasons why Everton fans are firmly behind under-fire Frank Lampard

Calvert-Lewin was criticised early in his Everton career but he has blossomed into a proven goalscorer in the Premier League.

The Englishman enjoyed a great season in 2020/21. He scored 21 goals from his 39 appearances across all competitions.

The 25-year-old has struggled with injuries this term as he has only played 13 games in the Premier League. He has scored three goals during this time.

Campbell is unsure whether Arsenal should target Calvert-Lewin. He would “steer clear” of him as he would “cost a lot of money”:

“It’s a strange one. I think when he’s fully fit and firing, I can see it,” Campbell told Football Insider.

“But putting my Arsenal cap on, as an Arsenal fan – would it really excite me?

“If I’m holding my hands up, no.

“It would cost a lot of money in transfer fees and wages, so I would steer clear. If you’re going to make a statement then you’d set your targets a bit higher.
