Man Utd's worst XI of the Premier League era has been named
Manchester United are officially wading through their worst ever Premier League season.
The humiliating 4-0 defeat at Brighton & Hove Albion confirmed that United are now unable to produce a points tally that would finish above their all-time lowest total in the top-flight since 1992.
As such, there has been a lot of talk about the possibility that Ralf Rangnick’s current United team is the worst that the Old Trafford club has fielded since the Premier League changed English football forever.
Marry that to Roy Keane having recently named his all-time greatest United XI in the modern era and you can understand why fans might suddenly be wondering about the other end of the spectrum.
In fact, off the back of all the discourse surrounding United as they plummet to their post-1992 nadir, the Daily Mail have decided to name what they consider to be the club’s worst ever Premier League XI.
From transfers that were investigated by the police to disastrous buys that barely played more than a few games, it’s fair to say that United have fielded some less than top-class players in the last 30 years.
So, as United lick their wounds after a catastrophic day’s work at the Amex Stadium, be sure to wallow in the misery by checking out the Red Devils’ worst XI of the Premier League era below:
GK: Massimo Taibi
Could it be anyone else? The brutally-nicknamed “The Blind Venetian” will be eternally infamous for his clanger against Southampton after which he only played one more game for United: a 5-0 thrashing at Chelsea.
RB: Guillermo Varela
A little harsh, truth be told, with David Moyes’ first signing at Old Trafford only ever going on to make four Premier League appearances, before eventually leaving the club for Peñarol in 2017.
