Premier League side Southampton are currently monitoring Manchester United midfielder James Garner ahead of a potential transfer move in the summer, as per yesterday’s report by The Sun.

The 20-year-old is currently plying his trade at Championship side Nottingham Forest, becoming one of the Reds’ standout players in the middle of the park with his offensive and defensive contributions and playing a big part in their rise up the table.

Fellow top-tier side Leeds United are also thought to be in the race for the midfield, with the Whites not exactly being afraid to scan the EFL for fresh faces recently and desperately needing to add more depth to their midfield.

Unfortunately for both interested sides, Garner signed a contract extension at Old Trafford prior to his move to the City Ground with the 20-year-old set to remain in Manchester until 2024 with the option of extending that stay by a further 12 months.

After failing to take the full step up to the top tier yet, the midfielder may be something of an unknown quantity to many Saints fans. But would he be a good addition to have on the south coast? And is he a needed figure at St Mary’s?
