"Would definitely help West Ham" - Respected journalist reacts as huge Moyes transfer claim made

Champions League football would definitely help West Ham‘s case in their bid to sign Manchester United attacker Jesse Lingard in the summer, says journalist Dean Jones.

With the 29-year-old set to become a free agent, competition for his signature is expected to be fierce, but Jones thinks the Hammers can increase their chances of landing him by finishing in the top four.

According to Claret & Hugh, West Ham manager David Moyes spoke to Lingard’s father in January, but a transfer then was difficult due to United playing hardball. However, the same report states that the east London club are still interested in the attacking midfielder and will revisit things in the summer.

Prior, ESPN claimed that West Ham’s Premier League rivals Tottenham were also exploring the option of bringing in Lingard ahead of next season, while Barcelona and AC Milan are also said to be interested.

It means Moyes could have a real battle on his hands to land the Englishman for a second time.

Lingard, of course, spent the second half of the last campaign on loan at the London Stadium, where he absolutely excelled. In 16 appearances, the United star managed to score nine times to help West Ham finish sixth and subsequently qualify for the Europa League.

Despite all of the competition for Lingard’s signature, Jones thinks West Ham are still in the picture and can boost their chances of winning the race for his services by qualifying for the Champions League.
