'Would be some prospect' - McGinlay excited as Celtic 'rumour isn’t going away'

Podcast presenter Ryan McGinlay has claimed that Ross Barkley ‘would be some prospect’ for Celtic as rumours continue to circulate regarding a possible transfer.

Over the past few weeks, the midfielder has been linked with a possible move to Scotland this summer, and the talk doesn’t seem to be dying down just yet.

Indeed, in a recent tweet, prominent Chelsea source Simon Phillips said (via The Scotsman) that Barkley has a permanent offer on the table from the Bhoys.

In reaction to all the speculation, McGinlay believes that the Englishman would be an exciting option to have in the Celtic team as someone to interchange with Matt O’Riley.

The presenter took to social media to say: “Having the ability to interchange O’Riley & Barkley at the attacking-midfield position would be some prospect. The rumour isn’t going away…”

TIF Thoughts on Celtic and Ross Barkley…

Barkley has struggled for regular minutes in the Premier League during his time with Chelsea, but did enjoy more consistent playing time with Aston Villa on loan in the 2020/21 campaign. This likely explains why he is supposedly up for sale.

However, given his lack of impact with the Blues, some fans may well feel as though the midfielder isn’t the most exciting prospect – and he wasn’t involved in the club’s most recent league match, suggesting he is no longer part of Thomas Tuchel’s plans.

Still, with 232 appearances in England’s top flight, Barkley could bring plenty of experience to the Celtic side. And still only being 28 years of age, it’s not as if he shouldn’t still have a good few years left in him ready to play at a strong level.

With the rumours not disappearing just yet, it will be interesting to see how this one plays out.
