Worrying statistic that shows Newcastle United's goalscoring problem

Judging by one statistic, Newcastle United have the worst record in the Premier League when it comes to sharing out the goalscoring burden - a problem made clear in their last two matches.

The games against Chelsea and Everton both seemed winnable for the resurgent Newcastle United. However, the failure of any Newcastle player to put the ball in the net allowed the opposition to pinch both matches.

The problem is obvious, made more so by the season's goalscoring statistics. So far this season, only two players have scored more than two goals for the Magpies, worse than any other team in the division.

One of the two players on more than two goals is Callum Wilson, who is on the long-term injury list. The other is Allan Saint-Maximin, who has only just returned from injury.

Meanwhile, Ryan Fraser, Jonjo Shelvey, Joelinton, Kieran Trippier and Joe Willock have two goals each. All of them took more than 20 matches to get there, except Trippier, who looked like chalking up a decent share of goals from set pieces before he too ended up in the treatment room.

Looking at the rest of the division, even bottom club Norwich City have three players on more than two goals. Second-bottom Burnley have four, one of whom is Chris Wood, now on one goal at Newcastle.

Third-bottom Watford have five players on more than two goals. Everton, a poor side who Newcastle could not score against last week, have seven players on more than two goals.

In the absence of striker Patrick Bamford, four Leeds United players have stepped up to grab more than two goals. Brentford have five players on more than two goals. Above Newcastle are Brighton, who have five players on more than two goals. Leicester City have eight players on more than two goals.
