“World is against you” – Steve Bruce makes West Brom admission

Express & Star

The Baggies are yet to have picked up a victory since the former Newcastle United boss took charge at the Hawthorns and as a result their promotion hopes have taken a major hit.

At the time of writing the Black Country side have fallen well short of the top six places in the Sky Bet Championship and are at great risk of missing out on the play-offs unless their form turns around quickly.

Now Bruce has made the following admission about why he feels the confidence levels are at a season-low for the Baggies as they seek to get out of their rut:

“When you’ve been relegated and you start the new season with a new manager and there are a few bad results. With that comes injuries.

“The poor manager before me pays £7 million for a centre forward (Daryl Dike), and he does his hamstring badly in his first game.

“You know then that the world is against you.”

Next up for Bruce’s side is a home clash with Swansea City on Monday, with the game arguably providing the Baggies with a great chance to get back on track.

A victory in that game would move them into the top ten providing that other results go in their favour across the division.

The Verdict

It shows that the confidence at a club is low when the head coach is coming out and saying things like this.

These comments could be viewed as somewhat defeatist from Bruce and it is important that he still shows belief that he can turn things round for his club.

It has been a very tough start for him at the Hawthorns and he will need things to turn soon in order to keep the supporters on side.

Otherwise things could turn very nasty for him.
