World Cup qualifier: Nigeria’s draw against Lesotho a national embarrassment, says Oliseh

Sunday Oliseh

Former Nigeria international Sunday Oliseh has described the Super Eagles’ home draw against Lesotho a national embarrassment.

The Super Eagles got their FIFA 2026 World Cup qualifier on a disappointing note following a 1-1 home draw with lowly rated Lesotho on Thursday.

It was the visitors who took the lead through Motlomelo Mkwanazi in the 56th minute from a corner kick.

Semi Ajayi equalised for the Eagles after heading in a Moses Simon corner.

This is the first time the three-time African champions have failed to beat Lesotho after recording wins in the past four encounters.

Reacting to the result Oliseh, a former coach of the Super Eagles, posited that Nigeria’s home-based will beat Lesotho.

“Haba This nightmare go ever end? Woke up to this shocker this morning. Our homebased suppose dey beat Lesotho na! dem even first us score!!!! The painful part be say, no consequences for these national embarrassments sef!“ he wrote on X.

The Eagles will have the opportunity to get their campaign back on track when they face Zimbabwe on Sunday, 19 November, in Rwanda.
