World Cup draw LIVE as Scotland discover potential Qatar fate

It's a big day in Doha as the draw takes place for the first ever winter World Cup.

Excitement is building among the Tartan Army as Scotland dream of being one of the 32 nations at the showpiece event.

29 nations are currently known with Scotland/Wales/Ukraine still to face each other for the final European place. While the UAE, Australia, Peru, New Zealand and Costa Rica are vying it out for two spots as they face inter-continental playoffs.

Steve Clarke 's side are in pot four despite still having a huge playoff semi final against Ukraine to overcome before a showdown with Wales to reach Qatar.

France are defending champions, having lifted the trophy in 2018, but the likes of Lionel Messi with Argentina and Cristiano Ronaldo 's Portugal are out to clinch gold.

England will hope to go one better than their Euro 2020 runners up spot last summer. However European champions Italy will NOT be in Qatar, having lost 2-1 in their playoff qualifier against North Macedonia.

Scotland's playoff semi-final opponents Ukraine would much prefer to play some friendlies before the crunch Hampden clash in June.

Qatar is set to host the curtain raiser on November 21, with the final round of group games concluding on December 2.

The knockout stages will commence the following day, running until December 18 when the 80,000 capacity Lusail Stadium will play host to the World Cup final.
