World Cup digest: FIFA say attendances are at 94%

World Cup attendance figures stood at 94% after the first round of group matches in Qatar, FIFA has reported.

The highest attendance of 88,103 so far came at Lusail Stadium on Thursday evening for Brazil's 2-0 victory over Serbia.

Numerous empty seats have been obvious at several matches, although there have been problems with the ticketing app needed to gain entry to the stadiums.

Tickets remain available and FIFA said overall sales have passed the three million mark.

Eyebrows were raised earlier this week when attendances given for games appeared to be higher than the capacities of the stadiums, but it was later clarified that the grounds were able to hold more fans than had been stated.

A colour-blindness awareness association has criticised the choice of football kits chosen for the World Cup match between Cameroon and Switzerland on Thursday.

The British-based Colour Blind Awareness society said the combination of Switzerland's red kit with Cameroon's green strip would have created issues for some viewers who would not have been able to distinguish between the teams, as in both cases the two colours are seen in a color closer to black.

FIFA regulations state that colour-blind people must be taken into account when choosing shirt colors for each match, "if available".

"We have worked with FIFA since the last World Cup to help it establish regulations on shirt colours," said Kathryn Albany-Ward, the society's chief executive.

"FIFA recognizes that red versus green will be traumatic for people with colour blindness and that other colors interfere with it."
