Wordle: What is the best starting word in the game?
Wordle remains a genuine phenomenon, with millions of players across the globe playing the game every single day, but what is the optimal starting word in the game?
The global smash hit tasks players with guessing a six-letter word without any hints in five guesses.
When you guess, you’ll be guided by three different colours: Grey, Yellow, and Green.
For example, if you were to guess the word ‘CHAOS’, and no letters from the word were in the final answer, it would be greyed out completely.
If the letters A and O were in the word but in the wrong place, they would appear in yellow.
Were any of the letters to be included in the final solution, they would come up in green. If you were lucky enough that the word ‘CHAOS’ was the solution, you’d have it all come up in green, and get bragging rights over every person you know who also plays the game.
However, there have long been questions floating about regarding which is the optimal starting word in the game.
This reporter utilises CHAOS and RATIO but we are by no means experts, and there appears to be a real answer out there, courtesy of WordleBot.
The New York Times purchased the rights to the game earlier this year and came up with the WordleBot to go alongside it.
The bot has worked out the very best starting word you can use, in order to get the answer as quickly as possible.
That word is CRANE.
Along with that, other good starting words, per the bot, are CRATE, SLATE, SLANT and TRACE.
Of course, this is a bot, and algorithms have a different method when it comes to approaching problems compared to humans.
The WordleBot also has access to every possible solution, while the everyman simply doesn’t.
But when you next head into Wordle, maybe try CRANE as your first guess!
