Women's Premier Division round-up: Peamount strike late, Shelbourne win on the road

League leaders Peamount United left it late before claiming a 1-0 win over Bohemians at PRL Park.

It looked set to be a frustrating night for James O'Callaghan’s side as they found Bohs resolute and opposite net-minder Rachael Kelly in outstanding form.

It was edging towards a case of spoils being shared but with five minutes remaining, Dearbhaile Beirne picked up possession on the edge of the area and placed a beautiful effort into the top corner to secure all three points for the hosts.

Second place Shelbourne remain six points behind Peamount after a 3-1 win away to struggling Treaty United.

Shels didn’t have it all their own way, but they made the breakthrough seconds before the interval through Noelle Murray.

The same player doubled their advantage in the 51st minute after some superb individual skill – and a helping deflection on her shot – but Orlagh Fitzpatrick’s 81st minute effort gave Treaty hope. That was quickly dashed though as Morgan Rees scored her first goal for Shelbourne.

Cork City’s woes continued as they went down 3-0 in Galway.

The Munster side have yet to win a match in the league, and they were behind after just eight minutes as Jenna Slattery found the corner from just inside the box.

Galway captain Lynsey McKey grabbed Galway’s second 52nd minute and Slattery had her second of the game three minutes later.

Wexford Youths were 4-1 winners at home to DLR Waves.

Kylie Murphy put the Youths ahead as she hooked home early on before Michelle Doonan responded in the 18th minute.

Rianna Jarrett restored Wexford’s lead just before the break and Aoife Brophy and Emily Corbet added second-half strikes.

In Saturday’s other game, Athlone Town had a 2-0 win over Sligo Rovers, Dana Scheriff completing a good team move in
