Woman seriously injured after car crashes into bus before bursting into flames

A woman was seriously injured in a crash involving a bus which saw two cars and a gas main set alight.. Emergency services raced to Buxton Road in Disley, near Stockport, after the smash just after 3.45pm on Tuesday.

A red Skoda Fabia collided with a bus and a parked grey Toyota Yaris, police said. Following the crash, the two cars set alight. Pictures from the scene showed one of them completely engulfed and gutted by the flames.

A gas main was also ignited, Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said. The road was closed for several hours whilst police, paramedics and experts from the gas network Cadent dealt with the aftermath.

The driver of the Skoda, a 48-year-old woman from Stockport, was taken to hospital. Her injuries have been described as serious but not life-threatening.

It is not known how many passengers were on the bus. A Cheshire Police spokesperson said two passengers reported suffering "minor injuries."

Firefighters were at the scene for almost four hours with the road closure remaining in place. A spokesperson for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Firefighters are currently at the scene of a road traffic collision involving three vehicles on Buxton Road in Disley. Crews have extinguished fires involving two of the vehicles

."The collision has caused an ignited gas main so there is a road closure is in place for Buxton Road between High Lane and New Mills. Please avoid the area if possible."
