Woman's method to get 'dreamy' blonde hair at home – but there's major risk

If you get your hair done at a salon, you'll know how expensive it can be.

But one woman has insisted you don't need to go to a trained hairdresser to get the blonde locks of your dreams, as she reckons she's been doing it this way for "years". She claimed it "achieves platinum white blonde" – and it hasn't failed her yet.

Although some people in the comments were quick to warn others that using a 40vol bleach wouldn't suit everyone because of "scalp burns", with a few commenters saying her scalp must be "scabby" after she'd put the treatment on her head.

Carley, who posts on TikTok as @crazycatladyoftiktok, reiterated she'd been using this method for "platinum white blonde" for "years" and never had any issues with it.

"After 20 years of using this method, I certainly am not gonna be changing it up now," she said, explaining the colour is achieved in just one day. Carley claimed she "raided Boots" for all the "40vol" she could get, but got stopped at the till because "you can only buy so many chemical products" in one go.

According to Savvy & Shine, a 40vol developer can be used with permanent hair colour and high lift colour to give 4-5 levels of lift depending on the power of the colour and the texture of the hair. A 40vol with bleach isn't recommended.

Zotos Professional also shared: "People choose 40 volume because it's strong enough to lighten even the darkest hair. However, it's also very harsh and can damage the hair if used too often. So, it's best that you be cautious here."
